Saturday, 13 March 2021

Thailand, 13 March 2021 - Decathlon is one of the biggest sports equipment stores online and offline, with various choices ranging from equipment and sports accessories to 100% original. Its mission is to make sports more available worldwide, especially during the pandemic with everyone have to stay at home and shop online.

They realize the fast development of the demand in the online market, especially during the current pandemic, and the lockdown will negatively impact the environment in Thailand. According to Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) report, the lockdown during the Covid-19 outbreak led to a massive rise in the number of the country’s plastic waste as the average amount of it went from 2,120 tons per day in 2019 to approximately 3440 tons per day between Jan and April 2020.

The report brings Decathlon Thailand to collaborate with AdvancedBIO, the Official Country Representative of Greenhope, the technology partner of Ecoplas, cassava-based biodegradable bioplastic, to shift their conventional poly mailer to cassava-based mailer bag per September 2020 until now. They believe that business and the industry can do so much for the environment and tackle the systemic plastic waste problem with collaboration and more sustainable solutions.
